PEPE TORRES // no fun


Seulement quelques jours après "77 Frames", et poursuivant une même logique énumération visuelle, voici le "no fun" de Pepe Torres qui ne partage sensiblement (presque) rien avec l'hymne stoogien de 1969, si ce n'est l'infime particule d'humanité perdue dans les flots d'une immense solitude, autrefois aperçue, en filigrane des mots d'un Iggy Pop inspiré. 40 portraits conjugués au féminin, 40 regards interrogeant, eux-aussi, dignement la si fragile intensité de nos doutes. no fun ? Oui, car il ne fait aucun doute que cette gravité est celle de l'intelligence des gestes et la compréhension de nos actes. Elle est également celle d'une calme espérance qui peut soudainement se transformer en un espoir inoui - humains.

Just a few days after "77 Frames," and following the same logic of visual enumeration, we have Pepe Torres' "No Fun." This piece shares almost nothing substantial with the Stoogian anthem of 1969, except for a tiny particle of humanity lost in the waves of immense solitude. This particle can be seen behind the words of an inspired Iggy Pop. The work consists of 40 portraits of women, each one questioning the fragile intensity of our doubts with dignity. Is there no fun to be had? There is no doubt that the gravity of this piece comes from the intelligence of gestures and the understanding of our actions. It is also the gravity of calm expectation suddenly transformed into incredible hope - the gravity of humanity.
