Let’s take a moment! Look at the marvellous Fred Astaire — an emotional target, a dancing figure on yet another volcano, a “Wardance” dear to Mike Coles for Killing Joke, and just as much for us — we who have not (yet) forgotten.
Let’s fear nothing, for as a preamble... Alone, Antonio Murga hesitates for a moment, then changes his mind — Come on! Let’s go! Antonella Eye Porcelluzzi, determined and intentional, knows it, but doesn’t yet realise she has just triggered a fracture — There was, with undeniable intensity, a before CIRCUS, a during, and an after these “Parasites” that open both a parade and that damned XL Pandora’s box. It had to be done, perhaps.
Yes! Let’s pause a moment for these “Parasites” — quite capable of bewitching even the most ardent stone-hearted souls, hooked on three shitty chords and a flood of successive, inherent disappointments.
A fitting riff — Antonella throws herself headfirst into an exemplary challenge, with no chorus (sorry) for the deficit-driven belligerents, ignored by delicate minds, miles away from those supposedly “underground” artistic choices that have become so terribly timid and conventional — a mistake, yes, a casting mistake. “Parasites” is a kind of banger, at least here. Let me know if you agree!
“Galoppare” succumbs — the intentional collapse of an illusion. We shiver. A moment later, we doubt. I like it.
“Scream till they care” is a monument of intense solitude. Antonella struggles to convince on a threadbare line — indigenous, Antonio Murga doesn’t buy it, sorry, you can hear it. Doubt... creeps in.
Oh no, not that! Yes — Yes! She goes for it — (Faite d'amour) Brave Antonella, who conjures up a marvel of lyrical condensation in the face of the worst sonic torments of a brown-tinged conservatism — She triumphs!
“Mercedes Benz (blues-gospel unplugged)” is and will forever remain painfully lacking without Antonio Murga.
“Tango Delle Capinere” confirms a wonderful and much-needed rejuvenation, both for and initiated by Messrs. Bixio and Cherubini — not forgetting (for even a second) the 1931 French adaptation by Berthe Sylva (hi mom).
Gloriously imperfect, subject to so many magnificent and vindictive critiques — CIRCUS begins, with or without us, its journey as a cult album.
