THE NAMES // encore !

(before)

Caught late in the act (liar!), the renunciation (what's the point) – it has become so rare to say it out loud... Come on then, courage — after long hesitation — some looped and successive listenings, an unshared secret (what's the point). Can we finally understand our strange disintegrations? That same feeling, still intact after more than four decades, in the golden days of Calcutta and Postcards, its b-side, of the discovery — much more than enthusiastic — of SWIMMING on a confusedly joyful street in a 1982 Paris — already distanced by the vibrant Brussels of Plan K, of Factory Benelux, of Les Temps Modernes in a history that was no longer being written here — To be, for a moment and ultimately, nothing more than a lost "Spectators of Life", adoring "The Fire" or a cat from Brussels with love.

Afterwards, in the best-case scenario, it’s the dandyism of disappearance, a confession without particular grace. To simply live a life, without The Names, without even glancing toward the hypothetical clearing of STRANGER THAN YOU — we had definitively left.

(during)

Ok? "Last train from nowhere" for sure... Ah! The genius of deceptive and uncertain appearances, ENCORE! is certainly not redemption — or worse, one of those damn phoenixes, served to us unvaryingly with feigned benevolence, for lack of anything like real experience — business remains busy less. Diabolical details in series (under the marquee moon...) for those who still know — a surge, serial!

And yet, we don’t quite know how or why, this album sneaks in and openly inscribes itself within a singular interline, a retro-presentism that grants no favors to some reactionary, tragically insipid nostalgia. Observe, for the briefest instant, the ultra-tense guitar of Marc Deprez, succumb without delay to the gargantuan appetite for words from Michel Sordinia, his voice forever adolescent — it clearly becomes urgent that our daily life be illuminated.

Nostalgia, sure, is convenient — but we’ll ditch it as soon as we can. And we will! The Names have better things to do. Procrastination? Too late... Touch Touch Touch — blazing.

Absolute seduction — "Far From The Factories" drives a nail into our little wounded hearts, a marvel of present-tense intelligence, and our chimera of an Edie who dances forever on East 47th Street or above Stockport — "Apophenia" is prematurely epicentral, without any distance at all. We’ll speak again in forty years, shall we?

But then again, really, no desire to keep count. Time is pressing — sparing us the scholarly confrontation between a psychic "Godstar" and the haunting "Swimming with Brian Jones". Sentimental,  you thought you were somewhere else, the amplitude of clay turned to marble, be careful where you step, this album can — and may — ignore us, to remain elegant.

Listen to the future — the possible aftermath of a curious adventure. "Mei Mei" opens a sequence that offers a true fracture in a present (Watching for the New World) made wondrous — unless it’s down. A future made of joyful encores, inadequate or of us forgetful and vaporous venerated friends.

We thought we were... out of the game.

(pendant)

Ok ? "Last train from nowhere" for sure ...
"Touch Touch Touch" ardent.
