JOHN CALE // POPtical uo!snll!

Recyclage ?

🟣 POPTICAL ILLUSION

🟣 JOHN CALE // more from nocoVision ...

Foolish cynicism, now consensual skepticism, and thus in perfect ignorance of the elements of a history logically written from the past to the present. We now know that the exercise risks being perilous for the curious and irrevocable for the dangerous inquisitors. Certainly an inappropriate introduction, in regard to an era of the advent of superficial cretinism, of the sanctification of a first and ultimate authorized degree. But let us talk of music, shall we...

POPTICAL ILLUSION is indeed, the bewildering illusion of a musician who has decided to embrace it. A sinuous journey, constantly vacillating between pop songs (a minor art according to some) and profound meditations for another path to take (more rewarding according to others). John Cale has always hesitated and will hesitate forever. So much the better for everyone else, those concerned and lovers of the waltz and its companion hesitation.

A little over a year after MERCY, a complex and well-deserved return is applauded. The Welshman adopts, for the occasion, a concept of minimal dissemination. Gone are the idolized guests of the cult underground; the reservation has been made for two people besides JC, MM. Dustin Boyer and Nita Scott.

Game of appearance? An artwork for the joyful lover of pop life, far from innocent, plunges us into a traffic jam at the intersection of sixty years, more or especially less prosperous. Recycling? Certainly not, at most a velvety evocation of benevolent smiles (Shark Shark) but also, and above all, the juxtaposition of the best (How We See The Light) and the very good (I'm Angry or Laughing In My Sleep). As they say, "To noble souls, worth does not wait for the number of years."
