Une actualité, la récente sortie d'un second volume pour Mahorka consécutive à la primo-édition pour The Committee For Sonic Research. Deux occasions inespérées de venir au fait du side-project DORMANCE du passionnant duo Iliaque & Sobria Ebrietas. Les présentations faites, il est temps d'accorder nos violences.

Un point botanique ? La dormance soit l'interruption temporaire de croissance essentiellement due aux conditions climatiques - Transposée ici, elle agit comme l’aveu d’un arrêt sur image salutaire : refuser l’emballement, suspendre la production continue, aller baguenauder vers d’autres pâturages. Changer de lieu, déplacer l’enjeu, inscrire quelques marques dans une suspension aussi nécessaire qu’opérante.

Les légions d'aficionados de Vincent Bouteloup (Iliaque) et Bertrand Barbier (Sobria Ebrietas) le savent, cette fructueuse collaboration a déjà commis quelques pépites, rappelant l’importance de garder une attention soutenue à une scène netaudio (Enough Records, Phonocake…) rétive aux automatismes du copyright et à la logique d’accumulation marchande. DORMANCE ne se contente pas d’y faire écho ; il en radicalise les implications.

Sorti il y a un an, DORMANCE I annonçait déjà un appendice sonore aux dimensions conséquentes. Une matière brute, parcourue de fulgurances puissantes, de rythmiques amples ou volontairement appesanties, lacérées de cut-ups vocaux. Un édifice sonore où le spectaculaire cesse rapidement d’être un effet pour se muer en contrainte, débouchant sur une densité atmosphérique épineuse, parfois franchement revêche au lissage - Un album à déconseiller aux farouches dentellières et amateurs d'écoute décorative.

Il aurait été facile de clore l’expérience sur ce premier bloc. DORMANCE II choisit l’option inverse : refuser la césure, nier l’idée même d’album autonome. En reprenant la numérotation à partir de la piste 9, le duo affirme une continuité sans couture, une œuvre pensée comme un flux unique, étendu dans le temps. Ce second volume n’ouvre pas un nouveau chapitre ; il maintient l’écoute sous tension, prolonge l’état de suspension et en amplifie encore les effets. Album de contrastes accentués, DORMANCE II use du trouble majeur et oblige au marquage émotionnel extra-bold. À l'heure de nombreux questionnements des diverses trajectoires, au pays des stratégies obliques, il est désormais permis d'imaginer les soubresauts et le vertige.

News of the day: the release of a second volume for Mahorka, following the initial edition for The Committee For Sonic Research. Two unhoped-for opportunities to get to the heart of the DORMANCE side-project, led by the fascinating duo Iliaque & Sobria Ebrietas. Now that introductions are out of the way, it’s time to tune our violences.

A botanical point? Dormancy—the temporary interruption of growth, essentially due to climatic conditions. Transposed here, it acts as an admission of a salutary freeze-frame: a refusal of momentum, a suspension of continuous production, a wandering toward other pastures. Changing the location, shifting the stakes, leaving a few marks in a suspension that is as necessary as it is effective.

The legions of aficionados of Vincent Bouteloup (Iliaque) and Bertrand Barbier (Sobria Ebrietas) know it well: this fruitful collaboration has already produced a few gems, reminding us of the importance of maintaining a sustained focus on a netaudio scene (Enough Records, Phonocake…) that remains resistant to the automatisms of copyright and the logic of market accumulation. DORMANCE does more than just echo this; it radicalizes its implications.

Released a year ago, DORMANCE I already heralded a sonic appendix of substantial dimensions. Raw material, shot through with powerful flashes, ample or intentionally heavy rhythms, lacerated by vocal cut-ups. A sonic edifice where the spectacular quickly ceases to be an effect and becomes a constraint, leading to a thorny atmospheric density, at times frankly resistant to smoothing. This is an album to be discouraged for the faint-hearted or those seeking decorative listening.

It would have been easy to close the experience with this first block. DORMANCE II chooses the opposite path: refusing the break, denying the very idea of a standalone album. By resuming the numbering from track 9, the duo asserts a seamless continuity, a work conceived as a single flow, extended over time. This second volume does not open a new chapter; it maintains the listening tension, prolonging the state of suspension and further amplifying its effects. An album of accentuated contrasts, DORMANCE II uses major unrest and demands "extra-bold" emotional branding. In an era where various trajectories are being questioned, in the land of oblique strategies, it is now permitted to imagine the jolts and the vertigo.
